Managing Shelf Lifes

Do you have consumable goods? Food or Medicines are the classic example of goods which have a specific shelf life. If you do, then this unit is to cover this.

In SmartB, there is a shelf life calculation feature. This is attached to a Lot or Serial Number and it can be attached to each batch of goods that arrives in your warehouse. In order to set this up, go to:

Main Menu > Inventory > Inventory > Lot / Serial Number

When you get there, you’ll see this:

The fields are relatively straight forward. The Lot number is a running number and can be set up in the Sequence section (click here).

Once the relevant dates are in there, just click on Options > Update Shelf Life Dates  and the system will do the calculations for you.

For each Lot, you can also scroll down to see the relevant goods that are attached to this Lot number to ease the management of these goods.

  1. Question #1: What is the information needed for shelf life management of a product?

    I. Manufacturing date
    II. Received dates
    III. Expiry Date

    • Correct Answer: I & III

Explanation: Received date is not required for shelf life calculation even though this is an important information.
